About Sherryl

Three great passions in my life are food, travel and photography. Not necessarily in that order. Experiencing other cultures, meeting people from other countries and seeing the beauty (and sometimes ugliness) of the world has helped me to understand that all of our lives are inter-connected and yet individual.

As a young child I always loved photography. Every Christmas I always asked for film for my camera. It wasn’t until around 2004 that I began to take it seriously. I took a black and white class. It was this time spent in the darkroom that lit a spark sending me on my journey. I learned as much as I could through books and the internet. From there I went on to take formal classes at Harrisburg Area Community College, but I am primarily self-taught.

If I were to label my style, I would say I lean more towards documentary/street photography, but I enjoy taking photos of other subjects as well. I love telling stories through my photos. Combining techniques of different photographic styles leads to new ways of capturing images.

Photography is not just about pictures. It’s about feeling. If you don’t feel something when you make the photograph, the viewer won’t feel anything when they look at it.
